A Japanese manufacturer is churning out modular homes made of polystyrene foam. The material is easy to assemble, will not rot or attract insects, and acts as its own insulation. The flame-retardant walls can burn, but do not emit toxic fumes if they do. There are many configurations and sizes to select from. A struggling single parent and real estate agent is trying to sell her house and find a husband. She's auctioning off both her home and herself in a package deal on eBay and Craigslist. Single parent Deven Traboscia has been divorced for eight years. She had hoped to be remarried by now, so she is turning to the internet for help. The real estate agent is auctioning off her Palm Beach Gardens home and herself on both Ebay and Craigslist. In the ad, Traboscia writes: "If you want to live the never ending dream and experience the real love, life and the romance you have always felt was a fairytale then this is the vibrant outstanding woman of your dreams! To sweep this European Loving Lady off her feet send in your application right now." She goes on to say that her four bedroom, 2,000 square-foot home, that will be included in the deal, has "neutral colors, Berber carpet, and upgraded tile". Traboscia says she has already been contacted by one man in Italy, who is arranging a trip to South Florida to visit her. Her eBay auction ends July 2 and asks for a starting bid of 99 cents with a shipping cost of $500 thousand. The auction has not yet received any bids. ...................................................................................................................... He is in the process of making the big, empty box into functional spaces for his family. Check out the bedroom loft (with a bridge to the music studio loft - just don’t fall down!). And check out the gorgeous library underneath the bedroom, where he used the ceiling joist as bookshelves.

Bloodied 70-year-old woman cuffed for having a brown lawnSubmitted by frostfire on Sat, 2007-09-22 08:38. government | home | police![]() A 70-year-old woman arrested in a dispute over her brown lawn pleaded not guilty Tuesday, then stood by as a Los Angeles lawyer waved handcuffs for the cameras outside court. Betty Perry, left, sits with attorney Gloria Allred in Utah's Fourth District Court on Tuesday in Orem, Utah. Betty Perry is charged with resisting arrest and failing to maintain her landscaping, both misdemeanors. She was arrested July 6 after failing to give her name to a police officer who visited her home. During a struggle, Perry fell and injured her nose. She spent more than an hour in a holding cell before police released her. "I ask the citizens of Orem: How many of you would like to have your great-grandmother taken from her home with bruises and blood and placed in handcuffs for failing to water her lawn?" attorney Gloria Allred said. "Let's bring sanity back to law enforcement," she said. The mayor and City Council apologized, and the police department said the situation could have been handled differently. But the city attorney still is pressing charges, and Perry is due back in court next month. A state investigation found that Officer James Flygare acted properly in arresting Perry after trying to get her to cooperate. Perry's water had been turned off for about nine months, at her request, although she was living at the house at the time of the arrest. Orem has a shutoff policy for people who are away for extended periods. .......................................................................................................................
Using revolving doors saves 74% of energySubmitted by frostfire on Fri, 2007-08-24 09:03. doors | energy | home
![]() On average 8x as much air is exhanged when a swing door is opened as opposed to a revolving door. That's 8x as much new air that needs to be heated or cooled and that's why using the revolving door is a great way to reduce energy requirements. The air that is inside a building has been “conditioned” to make it comfortable for the occupants. We call the equipment that does this “air conditioners” in the summer, but the air heating equipment in use during the winter and ventilation “make-up air” consumed year round is also conditioned air. Energy is required to condition air -- to make hot, moist air cold and dry in the summer and to make cold, dry air warm in the winter. Thus, whenever air is exchanged between inside and outside, air conditioning equipment has to work harder, using more energy.
