Joanne Ussery, a hairdresser, was looking for a new mobile home to put next to the lake when her brother-in-law, an air traffic controller, had an unorthodox suggestion.

She paid $2,000 for the 727 fuselage, $4,000 for a house-moving company to move it to her lot, and six months and $25,000 to renovate it. The resulting house has some unusual features, and is built to last; (Source)

On the outskirts of Sebastol, this small house has been a childhood dream for artist builder Jay Shafer that created it. The entire house has only 96 square feet, basically smaller than most of people’s bathrooms. It is equipped with a stainless-steel kitchen, customized storage and has a classy wood interior. The artist’ next dream is to create a community of such small houses, connected by walking paths, having the same shrunk size as the homes.

On the other hand, the biggest house in the world belongs to royalty, as you might have guessed. The world’s biggest house is Windsor Castle, located in England, Berkshire, with a surface of around 484,000 square feet (about 45,000 square meters). Having its structure changed over the centuries, the castle now occupies 13 acres of land, having 1,000 rooms. Along with Buckingham Palace in London and Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, Windsor Castle is one of the principal official residences of the British monarch. The resident is Queen Elizabeth II that made the castle her home beginning with 1952.

For the past 22 years, Canadian artist Zube has worked on a house in Whistler, Canada, named The Mushroom House.

The Mushroom House basks in pure sunlight. The external design of The Mushroom House was inspired by the glacial rock formations found in Emerald Estates. As the home took shape, fascinated onlookers dubbed it The Hobbit House, Bedrock, and finally, The Mushroom House.

The interior design is based on the anatomy of a tree. All aspects of the decor reflect this motif, from the womblike hues of the Jacuzzi room in the ‘roots’ to the vivid leaf greens on the walls in the ‘canopy’.

A legal loophole left a South Gloucestershire family with an unwanted guest after he gave their address to a court and was given a curfew.

Shane Sims, 19, had been staying with Glenda Cole and her family and gave his temporary address as the Coles.

Mrs Cole said everything had been done without her knowledge and the courts had not asked her permission.

Police said there was nothing they could do and Mr Sims must stay at that address until his tag was removed.

Mrs Cole added: "I was on the verge of being thrown out by my housing association as I was going against my tenancy rules. "I was very upset."

Goran Tomasic and his wife Karmen of Croatia were so distraught when their dalmatian dog died that they decided to paint their house black and white in memory of their pet!

Mr Tomasic, from Pribislavec, northern Croatia, said: ‘At first we were afraid of what the neighbours would say, but we loved Bingo so much we had to do it. We wanted everyone to know what he meant to us and for his memory to live on.’

This is an awesome story of a West Virginian man who, along with volunteers, carves over 3000 pumpkins and display them on his house every Halloween!

Ric Griffith, the man behind the famous Kenova Pumpkin House, has carved over 25,000 pumpkins since 1978. Every year, he puts thousands of carved jack-o’-lanterns on the porch, roof, and yard of his 115-year-old Victorian house. It’s kind of like a pumpkin wonderland (see a few more pics at WVPics‘ gallery).

The Inaugural General Assembly of the World Toilet Association will have its first gathering next month. In honor of the occasion, founding member Sim Jae-duck of South Korea built this toilet-shaped house south of Seoul.

“Among its many amenities, the house features four deluxe toilets,” said the group, started in South Korea and dedicated to providing clean sanitation to the more than 2 billion people who live without toilets.

The home has a showcase bathroom located in its centre. Other toilets have features that range from elegant fittings to the latest in water conservation devices.
