Awsome Tattoo, Man!

It’s probably not a good idea to get a Japanese or Chinese character tattoo if you don’t speak the language, but something in English is safe, right? Well, perhaps not if you can’t spell: The L Magazine has a round up of the 10 greatest misspelled tattoos. My lack of spelling ability has always prevented me from getting a tattoo. That and general fear of pain.

Tattooed living zombie

| |

Bizarre magazine interviews a Montreal gentleman named Rick who is tattooing his entire body to look like the living dead. From the interview (photo by Neville Elder):

What look are you trying to achieve with your tattoos?
They’re about the human body as a decomposing corpse – the art of a rotting cadaver. It’s also a tribute to horror movies, which I love.

What influenced your tattoos? When I was a kid I was a big fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and I wanted to be a ninja turtle and live in the sewers. But as I got older I fell in love with zombies and wanted to become one. Oh, and I love George A Romero’s Living Dead movies.

Anyway, the closest thing I could get to becoming a zombie was to get tattooed like one.

Why pay a per-shirt cost for the Lacoste logo, when you can pay a one-time fee to brand your chest with the iconic allegator?

Star Wars Lightsaber Tattoo Fingers

| |

There's no doubt that spending the holidays with the in-laws can be a tedious and often boring experience.

What better way to while away the excruciating boredom than with your own set of lightsaber fingers! Imagine sitting in grandpa's old rocker, locked in an epic battle of probing digits! Sound effects not included.

Dot-To-Dot Tattoo

Colleen Venable is obsessed with giraffes (it all started when she lost a giraffe toy as a child, which sets off a 3 year hunt for that particular stuffed animal. Long story short 1,712 giraffes later, she found it!).

As part of her art project The Stalking and Murdering of a Childhood Giraffe Project, Colleen decided to get an "extremely visible invisible tattoo": a connect-the-dot tattoo of the giraffe toy. (She traced the giraffe with a pen for us all to see)

Tattoo disaster leaves man with 'Gay' branded on arm

|

A Geelong AFL fan has been left with a disastrous permanent reminder of his side's premiership triumph after a Thai tattooist inscribed his arm with the words "Gay Premiers 2007".

Instead of "Day Premiers 2007" as he wanted, hardcore Cats fan Neville found his message hopelessly lost in translation on a recent holiday to Phuket.

To make matters worse, the tattooist also managed to mistakenly ink Neville with the words "left arm" and "right arm" - but at least he got the correct arms.

Neville has told Southern Cross Radio he paid $150 to the tattooist for the privilege of having his arm inscribed - literally - with a gay icon.

Man gets tattoo of his wife and then she leaves him

| |

Alan Jenkins spent 20 hours in the tattoo chair and $2000 to get his wife of 15 years and his two daughters tattooed on his back.

Soon after he got the tattoo his wife, Lisa Jenkins, told him she was leaving him for a younger man she met at work.

Lisa says that she plans to move her new lover in as soon as Alan moves out.

Alan will not get the fresh tattoo removed. He said, "Lisa may have left me but she'll be on my back forever thanks to the tattoo."

DNA Tattoo

| | |

Matthew MacDougall, 4th year medical student describes his tattoo:

"My tattoo is from an Irving Geis illustration of DNA. I was attracted to his attention to the molecular detail while also drawing in a representational spiral that doesn't ignore the basic beauty of the double helix. This particular sequence (I've BLASTED) is too short to be specific to only one gene, but one human gene it's found it is the 5' UTR of one of our tight junctions."
